GRADUATE DESIGNER DATABASE
Those wishing to tap into young design talent will soon have a new source: the British Contract Furnishing Association (BCFA). In collaboration with the Business Design Centre in Islington, the BCFA is planning a Graduate Designers Index, sited within the centre. Launched at the annual New Designers Exhibition earlier this month, Marie Cooke from Loughborough College of Art and Design shows what a bit of imagination does to a bar stool. (an example of Ms Cooke's work is pictured above). The database will provide details of young designers sorted into four specialisations: textile design, interior design, furniture design and lighting. For details, contact 071-226 6641.
CONTRACT INTERIORS FORECASTS SELL OUT
Contract Interiors, the show launched in place of IDI this year, is predicting a sell-out, given that more than half the space in the Grand Hall at Olympia has already been sold. Designers, manufacturers and suppliers are urged to hurry while stalls for the April 1995 show are still available. For details contact Reed Exhibitions, tel: 081-948 9930.
SHERATON PICKS PUTMAN
ITT Sheraton has picked French design legend Andrée Putman's Paris-based design group Ecart to plan the interiors for a new four-storey hotel by Charles de Gaulle airport, Paris. Situated above the main airport train station, the £36m project, due to open early in 1996, will be designed by architect Paul Andreu, and will offer 240 bedrooms, 16 suites, eight salons, two restaurants and a bar.
EZRA ATTIA REvivES HOTEL ADLON
On the site of one of Berlin's foremost pre-war luxury hotels, Ezra Attia and Swedish desginers AB Living Designs have been appointed to recreate the splendour of the Hotel Adlon. The Adlon, originally built in 1902 within a stone's throw of the Brandenburg Gate, was badly bombed during the war, and has remained untouched since. The new version will incorporate both traditional and modern design elements, with a member of the Adlon family retained as a consultant. It will be operated by the Kempinski group.
REGENCY SPLENDOUR
The Regency Dolphin Hotel in Great Yarmouth rounds off its major refurbishment programme, started last November, with the opening of a new 70-seater restaurant this month. The Boulevard restaurant also includes a 30-seat bar area. Peter Hazlerigg, the chairman of Regency Hotels, looked after the refurbishment personally. He did the same six years ago with Regency Hotel's new-build property, the Regency Park Hotel in Newbury. The three-star, 50-bedroom Regency Dolphin hotel has new facilities including a new function room that can accomodate 120 people and a major behind-the-scenes revamp of the kitchen and service areas. Mr Hazlerigg has spent "top to tail, about £150,000".
