Fast micro

THE WHIZ - claimed to be the world's fastest microwave - was launched on to the catering market last week.

The 2000W microwave, made by Moulinex, will defrost and cook a hamburger from frozen in 48 seconds.

Optional extras include four 2000W halogen grills which will crisp crusts instantly, sealing in moisture.

Opto-electronic scanning is available and can be set to recognise more than 200 food packages and heat and crisp according to pre-programed directions.

The Whiz costs £2,000 plus VAT and is expected to sell well to fast food outlets, cafeterias and petrol stations.

Refrigeration

EUROPEAN and Middle Eastern interest was shown in a new counter-top refrigeration unit from Azkoyen.

Buyers from Greece, Cyprus, Malta, Saudi Arabia and Iran visited the company's stand to see a demonstration of the controlled cooling unit with front and rear access.

Ideal for the presentation of salads, sandwiches and pastries, it is available in 1,615mm and 1,870mm widths. Its portability - it operates from a 13amp socket - makes it suitable for pubs where it might have to be moved after the lunch service.
