Caterer and Hotelkeeper – 6290
NVQ UPDATE
MORE than 65,000 people are now working towards National or Scottish Vocational Qualifications (N/SVQs) in the hospitality industry.
The experience of N/SVQs so far has highlighted areas which need improving. The HCTC, as lead body, is in the process of reviewing and updating the N/SVQ framework.
Amendments being prepared for reaccreditation in December 1994 include: the need to provide better clarity in both the language and content of units; more emphasis on healthy eating and nutrition; and further investigation into the competence requirements of people employed in conference and banqueting, vending and kitchen portering.
Also under consideration is a separate food hygiene unit covering competences required by law.
A steering committee chaired by Neal Young of the Rank Organisation, who is a member of the HCTC's occupational standards and qualifications committee, has been set up to guide the development and consultation work on the updated qualifications.
Careers Show
LOOKING to recruit staff later this year? Then don't miss Caterer & Hotelkeeper's Careers and Recruitment Show which will be held at the Novotel Hammersmith, London, on 7 and 8 October.
The organisers of the show are building on the success of last year's event which introduced a new range of activities and interests at the show.
Company presentations and special seminars on interview techniques and personal image drew hundreds of attendees.
Exhibitors reported a high calibre of visitors and many actually hired staff from the show. Further information from Brintex Recruitment Events, tel: (0225) 833316.
