‘Finest cellar ever' in sale
The finest private cellar ever to appear at auction" is how Christie's describes the subject of a sale in London on 16 June.
The cellar, we are told, encompasses all of the great estates from all of the greatest wine-producing regions of the world, the most extraordinary characteristic being the quantities of older wine from the finest mature vintages. Some of the wines are said to be now so rare that they hardly ever appear at auction by the bottle, let alone in the quantities seen here.
The total cellar comprises 1,500 cases and is expected to fetch £1m. All the wines are said to be in superb condition. For more information, contact Christie's on 071-389 2745.

The latest Brewers Fayre figures show that wine sales were up 15% in 1993.
