POPE WINS PROMOTION at GREENFIELD

KEITH Pope has been promoted to chief executive of York-based Greenfield Holdings, the parent company of Croft Hotels and tour operator Rainbow Holidays.

Mr Pope has been managing director of the six-strong Croft group for the past five years. Before that he was chief executive of Consort Hotels, and is a former sales and marketing director of Ryan Hotels.

Since Greenfield was established in 1977 its annual turnover has grown to more than £20m.

HARTLEY WILL RUN CAFE POPPY

JAMES Hartley is to manage Cafe Poppy, a 110-seat French-Thai brasserie due to open later this month in Fulham, London (see Caterer, 7 April).

Mr Hartley, who will be responsible for 15 full-time staff at the brasserie, was previously restaurant manager at the jointly run Kenilworth and Marlborough hotels in London.

Lucy Wills is to join Cafe Poppy as head chef, catering for about 150 people a day. She worked most recently as a pastry chef and formerly as a temporary sous chef at Green's restaurant and oyster bar, London.

Managing director David Cleave hopes to open a second Cafe Poppy next year.

mcCOUAT MOVES UP AT SHERATON

JACQUELINE McCouat has been promoted to executive assistant manager of the luxury Sheraton Park Tower in London.

Ms McCouat, who was previously area director of human resources for ITT Sheraton's five UK hotels, will have operational responsibility for the 295-bedroom property.

She joined the company in 1988 as personnel and training manager. Her promotion to general management from human resources is unusual in the industry, but was helped by her completion of a Masters in Business Administration.

ARA APPOINTS WESTERN REP

GRAEME Millar has joined ARA Catering as regional sales manager covering south Wales, Avon and Somerset.

He was previously at Sutcliffe Catering, most recently as purchasing executive to the National Trust, and before that as regional operations manager for Sutcliffe's west and Welsh region.

SCRAGG VOTED IN AT BEST WESTERN

CHRIS Scragg, managing director of Marston Hotels, has been elected the first chairman of Best Western's new London region.

The consortium's 14 members in Greater London, including Marston's Hogarth and Coulsdon Manor hotels, were previously part of the south-east region, of which Mr Scragg has been chairman for the past 10 years.

Kevin Glasby, deputy head chef for seven years at Leith's at the Centre at London's Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, has replaced Alan Brazier as head chef.

Cynthia Buick to manager of the catering and hospitality management section of Fife College of Further and Higher Education in Kirkcaldy, from senior lecturer in the department.

Lea White-Phillips to front office manager at the Royal Air Force Club in London's Piccadilly, from front-of-house manager at the Preston Resort Hotel, Brighton.

Peter Phillips to senior assistant manager at Middlethorpe Hall in York, from assistant manager, sales and marketing, at Claridge's in London.

Brian Irving to restaurant manager at Malin Court hotel, Turnberry, Ayrshire, from the same position at the Castle of Brecon Hotel, Powys. Andrea Beach has joined as Malin Court's head chef from Lochgreen House, Troon.

Trevor Watson has joined the London office of property agent Christie & Co, dealing with restaurants and wine bars, from a similar position at Kemsley Whiteley & Ferris.

Andrew Hopgood to front office manager at the Runnymede Hotel, Surrey, from assistant front office manager at London's Gloucester Hotel.

David McCulloch, president and chief executive officer of Garland Commercial Ranges in Canada, has been appointed chairman of its Middlesex-based subsidiary, Garland Catering Equipment.

Claire Binstead, former deputy manager of Brighton's Courtlands Hotel, has become senior recruitment consultant in the hotel and catering division of the Brighton-based Montpelier Employment Agency, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.

Peter Dennis to manager, marketing automation, for Marriott Hotels in Europe and the Middle East, from corporate sales manager with the company.

Geoff Warner to sales director, southern region, Acacia Catering Butchers, from sales manager at Fairfax Meadow.

Richardson Sells to vice-president, Asian sub-continent, Holiday Inn Worldwide, from vice-president, franchise development and service, for Asia Pacific.
