A doughnut andice-cream outlet is to open in Birmingham next week, the first in a chain to be set up across the Midlands.

The 36-seat café combines Allied-Lyons' Baskin-Robbins and Dunkin' Donuts brands. It will be run under a franchise agreement by Ansells, the Midlands brewery and pub operator also owned by Allied-Lyons.

A further 11 outlets are expected to open this year, including three next month in the Birmingham area.

American Express and Nestlé Foodservice have become sponsors of this year's Dine-a-Mite, the hospitality charity event set up last year to help the homeless and hungry.

Amex will include information on Dine-a-Mite in its cardholder magazine, Expressions, and on monthly statements to its 1.1 million cardholders.

It will also run a merchant service, so that those who are unable to visit a restaurant during Dine-a-Mite Week on17-23 October can make a donation on their cards.

BrightReasons has hired an advertising agency to create clearer market positionings for its Pizzaland, Bella Pasta and Pizza Piazza brands.

The appointment of GGT by the company's new marketing director, Michael Ryan, comes at a time when BrightReasons is actively expanding throughout the UK.

Best Western Hotels has recruited two new members, the 33-bedroom Spread Eagle Hotel at Thame, Oxfordshire, and the 18-bedroom Cartland Bridge Hotel in Lanark.
