Change in law on selling game looks likely
Restaurants might be able to sell game all year round if the laws that prevent it appearing on the menu outside the shooting season are repealed.
The change in the law, which is unlikely to come into force before the start of the next grouse-shooting season on 12 August, would allow game to be sold but not shot during its protected breeding season.
A spokeswoman for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs confirmed it was considering the change. "In today's world when game can be frozen there really is no reason why it shouldn't be sold throughout the year," she said.
