Chef called to account for alleged debts

Chef Conrad Gallagher was this week at the centre of a legal dispute.

He was given until Tuesday (11 July) to explain to Harry Hill, master of the High Court in Dublin, why he should not have to pay IR£70,000 (£56,000) for alleged rent arrears and an alleged unpaid personal loan.

Gerard McGurn, landlord of the building at Upper Merrion Street in Dublin that formerly housed Gallagher's restaurant, Lloyds Brasserie, wants IR£70,500 from the chef.

The amount is made up of IR£57,500 in alleged rent arrears and IR£13,000 for a personal loan, which McGurn claims he made to Gallagher and which, it is alleged, was repaid by a personal cheque that bounced.

The court was due to make a decision this week.
