Chef wins judgment but no cash

An employment tribunal has judged that a head chef who lost his job for working at another pub without his employers' knowledge was unfairly dismissed.

But it also concluded that the chef was 60% responsible for his dismissal and was not entitled to any basic or compensatory award.

Alan Bendelow had worked at the Golden Fleece pub and restaurant in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, since 1991. He was suspended for misconduct in May 2000 and dismissed in early June after the owners discovered he had been working on Fridays and Saturdays at the Old Royal George Public House and that he had organised the kitchen rotas to meet this secret commitment.
