Clash of the tartans

Chefs from all over Scotland met last month for the second Oban Seafood Cooking Competition for professional chefs, which culminated in the cook-off for the title Oban Seafood Chef of the Year.

The winner was Martin Vincent, head chef of the Isle of Eriska hotel, while David Thomas of the Beardmore Hotel in Clydebank took the Junior Seafood Chef of the Year title.

The competing chefs, in both the senior and junior sections, had to prepare a starter and main course using seafood as the principal ingredient, and a dessert made with malt whisky. All the chefs had to observe strict time limits.

Organised by the Scottish division of the Cookery and Food Association, the competition has become the climax of the Oban Seafood Festival, which features dozens of events connected with the sea and seafood.
