Compass PR manager claims unfair dismissal

Compass Group is being taken to an industrial tribunal for allegedly making a woman redundant because she was pregnant.

Denise Clark, former public relations manager for Compass's Letheby & Christopher leisure and sporting division, claims she was dismissed in June last year while on maternity leave.

She will be claiming unfair selection for redundancy and sexual discrimination at a one-day hearing at the Employment Tribunal in Woburn Place, London, on 1 February.

She said: "I had a meeting with them, which I thought was to discuss my return to work, and they made me redundant."

A statement from Letheby & Christopher read: "Mrs Clark was consulted about the redundancy situation in May. An alternative offer of employment was made and refused."

It continued: "This was a genuine redundancy of a unique position that was handled in a fair and correct manner."
