Contract catering set for growth

The UK contract catering market is set to grow in value by a compound rate of 3.5% per year between 1996 and the year 2000, according to a new report by MarketLine International.

The value of the market, which stood at £2.30b in 1995, will increase to £2.32b this year and to £2.66b by 2000, the report predicts.

The UK contract catering market will benefit particularly from further outsourcing in the public sector and from the Government's Private Finance Initiative, according to MarketLine.

Contract catering executives quizzed for the report said profit margins were still being squeezed. They forecast that some smaller companies would be bought out by the larger, multinational operations or forced out of business entirely.

Contract Catering 1996 costs £245 and is available from MarketLine. Tel: 0171-624 2200.
