Cork's Hayfield Manor named AA Irish Hotel of the Year

Hayfield Manor hotel in Cork (above) has won the AA Irish Hotel of the Year Award for 2003-04.

Olive Roberts, director of sales for the 88-bedroom, five-star property, said the hotel's staff were "over the moon".

"In Ireland it's the award everyone craves, and we've only been open since 1996, so for us it's even better," said Roberts. "It's an amazing achievement for all the staff. But it didn't just walk up the avenue and knock on the door - we had to work hard for it."

AA Ireland's managing director, Pat Kiely, said standards at the hotel "compared favourably with the very best in the world".
