Corney funds growth
CITY traders who have moved away from the traditional liquid lunch can now enjoy an all-day breakfast at the newly refurbished Corney & Barrow in Cannon Street - and even make their own toast.
Although the wine bar continues to offer a full list of wine and beers, the new informal, modernist design reflects the trend towards lighter mid-day meals served with non-alcoholic drinks.
Speed of service will be helped by special toasters placed on the tables for traders from the nearby London International Final Futures Exchange to make their own toast.
The wine bar's refurbishment cost £78,000, which is just part of a substantial investment London-based Corney & Barrow is putting into its units.
In the past few weeks it has opened new wine bars at the Royal Exchange, which cost £40,000 to upgrade, and Canary Wharf, where the total investment was around £500,000.
Another new outlet is scheduled to open at Farringdon in October, and managing director Chris Brown is close to signing a lease on a 12th site in the Finsbury Circus area.
