Council gives Wimbledon caterer the all-clear

A contract caterer for the tennis championships at Wimbledon was put in the clear by local environmental health officers this week

Merton Council launched an investigation last week after 30 complaints of illness, mostly from the media and staff.

But the event's main caterer, Facilities Management Catering, which won the contract for Wimbledon this year, was cleared after tests failed to identify one item of food or a specific meal that a significant number had eaten.

In a statement, Merton Council said that it would continue to monitor the situation closely but added that it was confident that high standards of food hygiene were maintained by staff at all times.
