DID YOU KNOW?

n Ice carving has been recorded as a craft for about 150 years.

n An ice carving starts from a huge block of ice made on site.

n A typical carving takes an average of four to six hours.

n For intricate carvings, where the sculptor stands still, warm-up breaks are needed every 15 to 30 minutes.

n Keeping warm is a serious issue - clothing includes insulated boots, gloves, hats, insulated trousers and jacket.

n Carvings are transported by refrigerated vehicles.
