Dog ban costs £500

A blind man who was told to eat outside on the pavement by a Chinese restaurant that ran a no-dogs policy has won compensation under new discrimination laws.

After negotiations with the Disability Rights Commission, the China One restaurant in Nottingham has agreed to pay £500 compensation to Tony Reddish.

Last month he was told he could not eat on the premises with his dog Joey.

The restaurant has agreed to change its dog-free policy, which is illegal under the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, to display notices stating guide dogs are allowed in the restaurant, and to provide disability awareness training to its staff.

Ironically, Reddish, who works for the local council, will provide the disability awareness training.
