E coli death linked to US steakhouse

A US steakhouse restaurant is under investigation after a young girl died and 20 other people fell ill following an outbreak of E coli.

Three-year-old Brianna Kriefall, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, died on Friday (28 July), and at least two other children are said to be in hospital.

The cases emerged last week and are all linked to the same Sizzler restaurant in Milwaukee, according to city health officials.

The restaurant, one of 200 franchises of California-based Sizzler USA, has been temporarily closed for investigation.

Sizzler USA owns an additional 65 Sizzler restaurants. In a statement, the company said it had received "numerous" industry commendations for cleanliness.

Executives from the chain in Milwaukee are helping with the investigation.
