Elliott to sell Greenway hotel

TONY Elliott, proprietor of the highly regarded Greenway hotel near Cheltenham for the past 15 years, has decided to sell the property.

Mr Elliott, who successfully negotiated a refinancing of the business 18 months ago, has asked agent Robert Barry & Co to seek offers of over £1m.

He said there had already been much "serious" interest in the 16th century property, and is hopeful of concluding a deal in the next few weeks. He stressed, however, that he was in no hurry to sell.

He said that although he would be sad to leave the Greenway after so long, the past four years had been "a struggle", and he was now keen to move on. "I have been in hotels for 41 years," he told Caterer. "I'm going to stand back and look at a number of different opportunities both in the industry and outside it."

In October he will stand down as chairman of Pride of Britain after five years. He had previously been deputy chairman since the consortium was founded in 1982.
