Elsmie succeeds Crome at Old CourseHotel

PATRICK Elsmie, resident manager at the Gleneagles Hotel for four years until he moved to South Africa in 1990, is to return to Scotland asgeneral manager of the St Andrews Old Course Hotel.

Mr Elsmie is replacing Peter Crome who in June announced he was leaving the award-winning, 125-bedroom hotel to become managing director of Hampshire's renowned Chewton Glen hotel.

For the past three years, Mr Elsmie has been general manager at the Fancourt Hotel & Country Club Estate in Cape Province, and before that he spent a year at the Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town.

His appointment comes at a time when the Old Course Hotel is completing its own golf course at nearby Craigtoun Park. And the Old Course itself, which the hotel overlooks but does not own, is preparing to host next July's Open Championship.
