English wine wins approval at food show
More than 20,000 tastings by visitors to the BBC's Good Food Show in November demonstrate that English wine is now widely appreciated by the public. This is confirmed by the wide exposure of English wines in supermarkets and high street wine merchants.
The stand that attracted so much attention at the show was taken by English Wine Producers. This is a group of seven vineyards - Barkham Manor, Chiddingstone, Chiltern Valley, Denbies, Lamberhurst, Leeford and Three Choirs - all of which are becoming familiar names to wine drinkers.
Each vineyard brought one wine to the stand with a show selling price of £3.99, demonstrating that English wine is not as expensive as it is sometimes thought to be.
