Eton group to double in size
The first to open will be the flagship Threadneedles hotel at the old headquarters of the Midland Bank in London. The property cost a total £17.5m to acquire on a long lease and convert into a hotel Its 70 bedrooms and suites make it the group's largest property. Threadneedles will also be the only hotel in the group to offer full dining facilities rather than just a breakfast room. The 100-seat restaurant will serve Mediterranean food. The hotel will also provide a health and fitness club, three small boardrooms for 10 to 30 delegates, and private dining. A week later, the group plans to launch its first hotel outside the capital when the 46-bedroom Quebecs opens its doors in Leeds. The Eton Town House group was set up by managing director Peter Tyrie in November 1998 and includes the 43-bedroom Colonnade Town House in Little Venice and the 50-bedroom Academy Town House in Bloomsbury. Tyrie aims to operate around 10 properties in London and is looking at two sites in the West End and another in Knightsbridge. He is also targeting major cities such as Glasgow, Edinburgh and Bristol.
