Expanding Hotelympia plans a move to ExCel

Hotelympia will be held at Earls Court for the last time in February 2002. The organiser of the show, Fresh RM, has decided to move the food service and hospitality exhibition, celebrating its 67th birthday, to ExCel in London's Docklands for the 2004 event.

Show director Claire Finch said: "Hotelympia has enjoyed its time at Earls Court but it now uses every possible space in the venue, and we believe, if the show is to continue to attract key buyers, it is crucial that it develops and grows.

"The move to ExCel presents us with a great opportunity to give it an injection of creativity and dynamism that has been restricted within the confines of Earls Court. It will allow us to re-evaluate the event and add new features which reflect the latest innovations and trends within the industry.

"It is time to recognise that the food service market has moved on, and so must the show. The contemporary architecture, both inside and out, will help to create a different atmosphere in the show - a more modern and stylish backdrop for an event which represents the best in hospitality worldwide."

ExCel's proximity to the City Airport has also been a contributing factor in the decision to move. "The airport will be a huge bonus," Finch said, "bringing visitors from 30 European cities on 220 flights daily."
