Fancy being dumped over dinner?
Women planning to pop the question over a candlelit supper on Valentine's night, or on 29 February, take note: you are just as likely to get dumped over dinner as you are to land the man of your dreams, new research shows.
A study into the nation's love for eating out shows men are just as likely to ditch their partners as they are to propose when booking a table for two.
The survey carried out by high-street restaurant chain PizzaExpress found that nearly 1.4 million Britons had broken up with a partner in a restaurant - the same number that had used a dinner date to start a relationship. Even so, restaurants still continue to be a favourite place to take a date, with more than 20 million people (45%) admitting booking a restaurant to impress the man or woman in their life.
David Sykes, managing director of PizzaExpress, said: "Restaurants are a perfect place for a romantic date or to propose to that special person. Unfortunately, it also seems that a meal on neutral territory can sometimes be the end of a relationship too.
