Faxback firm fined
Two firms have been penalised for misleading hoteliers over premium-rate faxback requests. Both had asked hotels to fax over information about their business without giving any indications of the cost of the line or providing contact details.
The Independent Committee for the Supervision of Standards of Telephone Information Services (ICSTIS) fined Design Associates of South Wales £1,000 after receiving 14 complaints from around the country, many from hoteliers.
The company did not respond to ICSTIS's questions, which were faxed and sent by registered post.
ICSTIS also invoked emergency procedures against Eurofax Communications of London, which led to the voluntary removal of the service. This followed complaints from 21 people, including hoteliers and two estate agents.
