Flying low in the face of adversity
So there I was, working at a restaurant in Houston, Texas, on Superbowl Sunday.
The night was going by smoothly with me dancing between the office checking the Superbowl score and doing my rounds through the dining room. I stopped to check the final score: San Francisco 55, Denver 10. I looked at the squares on the sweepstake on the wall and to my surprise, saw I had won $500.
Then I thought it was time to "check the men's room". Off I trotted, grinning from ear to ear. Just as I was finishing, the hostess shouted through the door that table 18 was leaving. Ooh Christmas, I thought and rushed out. "Goodnight David, and thanks for your help," the guest said, giving me a present.
Feeling like a million dollars, I walked round the dining room, checking every table. Not one did I miss.
A couple of seconds later, one of the guests, a prominent doctor, came over and said: "David do you know you're open for business"? I smiled and said: "Yes doctor, we open at six ‘o clock on a Sunday." He looked back at me and said: "No, YOU'RE open for business." Confused, I gave the only reply I could think of: "Yes, well, I've been here since three o'clock."
He then said bluntly: "David, your trousers are open." I looked down and to my horror they weren't just open, my shirt was sticking out and my boxer shorts were in full view.
This had not gone unnoticed by the diners and I left to a standing ovation.
