Four Seasons opens suite fit for a king

New York's Four Seasons hotel has opened the first of four new luxury suites, the most expensive of which will sell for nearly $20,000 a night.

The Royal Suite, which is more modestly priced at $9,500 a night, is on the 32nd floor, has three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a mother-of-pearl chandelier in the dining room, and a living room with goatskin walls. Designer Peter Marino accepted the contract only on condition that he could use whatever materials he wanted.

Next year, the hotel plans to open the even more palatial Penthouse suite on the 52nd floor and two Presidential suites on the floor below.

The entire project has been supported by the owner of the building in which the Four Seasons is housed, businessman Ty Warner. Also involved is IM Pei, the hotel's original architect.
