Glasgow double for Conyers

MIKE Conyers, proprietor of d'Arcy's restaurant and bar in Glasgow's Princes Square since 1988, has acquired premises in nearby St Vincent Square for a new 100-seat restaurant called Chartier's.

The site, a former banking hall for BCCI built in 1913, will provide about 143sq m on the ground floor and 179sq m at basement level. It is being refurbished in a French turn-of-the-century style at a cost of £200,000.

Mr Conyers said the 25-year lease, at an initial rent of £32,000 a year, had taken 15 months to negotiate with the landlord, Sun Alliance, and its agents, Jones Lang Wootton and Whitelaw Baikie.

He is currently recruiting a team of about 20 staff and hopes to open Chartier's at Easter. Mr Conyers said he was also looking for further sites in Glasgow.
