GM plans to expand Rhodes network

Gary Rhodes and backers Gardner Merchant (GM) plan to open a third City Rhodes restaurant by the beginning of next year.

The second venture, in London's Dolphin Square, is set to open in May with about 80 seats (Caterer, 30 October 1997, page 14).

GM corporate affairs director Bob Cotton said there were plans to open a third public restaurant some nine months after the opening of the second. But he quashed speculation that the third restaurant would be in Edinburgh.

Rumours started after Gary Rhodes was spotted eating with Gardner Merchant colleagues in several top Edinburgh restaurants two weeks ago, but Cotton said Rhodes was there as part of his normal duties training GM chefs. He added that the third restaurant would be in the South of England.
