Gowrings' sales down again

Burger King franchisee Gowrings has had a "quiet" first half of 2001, according to chairman John Fowles.

Speaking at Gowrings' annual general meeting, Fowles said year-to-date comparable sales were down on last year. The foot-and-mouth outbreak has been a "significant factor", he said.

The company has opened two new restaurants this year in Portsmouth and Sutton Coldfield. There are plans to open another three before the end of the year in Reading, Havant and Birmingham. This will bring the total number of restaurants to 43.
