Granada Compass appoints board of directors

Granada Compass has unveiled the board of directors of its newly combined UK contract catering division.

Two managing directors will share responsibility for its business and industry accounts: Peter Aldrich, former managing director of Sutcliffe, will be managing director for corporate accounts, while Nigel Dunlop, previously Compass Group's operations director becomes managing director of business, industry and leisure.

His responsibilities include events caterers Letheby & Christopher and Payne & Gunter as well as the Circadia central production unit.

Don Davenport, confirmed as chief executive officer of the Granada Compass catering businesses at the end of May, said the appointment of two managing directors for the business and industry sector was needed because of the size of the business and the need to recognise "the different requirements of certain groups of clients."

Further board appointments include Frank Whittaker as sales and marketing director. He was sales development director at Granada Restaurants.

Trevor Briggs, who was managing director of specialist operations for Compass, becomes managing director of specialist markets for the combined company. His responsibilities will include education, healthcare, defence, local authorities, police and prisons.

Tony Monnickendam, as managing director, retail, will be in charge of all the Select Service Partner (SSP) and Granada Retail Catering business in the UK. His new portfolio includes catering outlets at shopping centres, airports and railway stations. Monnickendam was managing director for SSP in the UK.

Chris Copner, previously managing director of Granada's Little Chef and Travelodge division, becomes managing director, roadside. His remit now includes Little Chef, Travelodge, motorway services and Harry Ramsden's fish-and-chip restaurants.

David Mortimer, commercial director of Granada Restaurants, becomes finance director, while Mike Burton becomes human resources director. Burton was human resources director for Compass in the UK.

Compass Group's Mike Oldfield has been handed the role of business relations director, with responsibility for implementing "a comprehensive client and customer satisfaction programme" and developing the company's facilities management and vending business.
