Gravetye Manor boasts two young finalists

JONATHON Baron (above), sous chef at Gravetye Manor, West Sussex, last week clinched one of the last five places for the national final of the Young Chef/Young Waiter of the Year competition in May.

Mr Baron, a national finalist two years ago, successfully negotiated the last regional final in Bournemouth alongside the hotel's head waiter Ben Jones, who was taking part for the first time.

Other qualifiers from the Bournemouth heat were Paul Jackson, dining room manager at Cliveden, Berkshire, David James, station head waiter at the Dorchester, London, and Robert Clayton, sous chef at Hunstrete House, near Bristol.

The competition, which is organised by the Restaurateurs Association of Great Britain, comes to a head on 4 May at Westminster College. The sponsors are American Express and Caterer & Hotelkeeper.
