Habgood to take over as Whitbread chairman

Anthony Habgood has been named as the new chairman of leisure giant Whitbread.

Currently chairman of catering supplies company Bunzl, Habgood will take up the £250,000-a-year post in August. The 58-year-old will remain chairman of Bunzl.

Outgoing chairman Sir John Banham, who will be 65 in August, is retiring completely from his £195,000 position with the company. He has been at the helm of the hotel and restaurant operator for five years. Whitbread chief executive Alan Parker said: "We have a strong platform to build upon in the three sectors of the leisure and hospitality market where we have leading positions.
