Heathrow Sheraton's Beaves dies, aged 52

Moyra Beaves, general manager of London's Sheraton Belgravia for almost eight years, has died of cancer, aged 52.

Beaves joined Sheraton in 1988 as resident manager of the Sheraton Society Hills in Philadelphia, and transferred to the Sheraton Heathrow Hotel two years later.

In January 1991 she became general manager of the Belgravia, and in recent years combined her work with her commitment to fund-raising and counselling for five charities, including the Bristol Cancer Health Centre and Gilda's, where she sat on the advisory board.

During her fight against illness she took part in many orthodox and alternative treatments to help further cancer research, and she was nominated for a humanitarian award in the European Women of Achievement Awards 1998.

Michael Wale, Sheraton's UK area director, said: "Moyra made an outstanding contribution to our company and to her hotel.
