Hospitality fares well in DTI directors' league of shame

The Department of Trade & Industry banned 20 people in the hospitality industry from being directors in 2000, it announced last week.

Just 1.3% of a national total of 1,500 people banned as company directors following the failure of a previous company were working in hotels, restaurants and pubs. Hospitality came out well compared with the textile and clothing business, with 200 directors banned, and construction and demolition, which saw more than 150 bans.

Best-behaved directors were among furniture makers and furniture shops, with no bans at all.
