Hospitality is a top performer
The average financial performance of hotel and leisure companies stabilised during the final quarter of 1996 after a strong showing in the third quarter.
CCN Business Information found that firms in the hospitality sector had a better pre-tax margin than the average of the UK's top 1,000 companies in all sectors of the economy.
Hotel and leisure businesses have improved on other key financial ratios, on average. For example, in the second quarter of 1996 interest cover was just 1.6 times. By the final quarter this had improved to 2.6 times.
CCN said the performance in the hospitality sector was boosted because of higher occupancy and room rates, together with record numbers of tourists.
