Hotelier fined for breaching fire rules

A hotel proprietor in west Wales has been fined £1,500 for flouting fire regulations.

Christopher Jones, proprietor of Penmaen House, Penmaen, admitted running the establishment without a fire certificate.

Magistrates were told that there had been more than twice the legally permitted number of guests at the hotel.

Amanda Howells, prosecuting, said Mr Jones had been told by the fire service since 1990 that he required a fire certificate.

Mr Jones claimed his hotel could only hold six guests, but fire officers found 13 places set for breakfast on a visit last year.
