Hoteliers ‘could be captains of other industries'
Britain's top hoteliers would be just as capable of managing a pharmaceutical giant or an international publishing house as they are running hotels, according to research from the RAC.
The study, conducted by management psychologist Dr David Lewis, analysed senior managers from a selection of the RAC's annual award-winning hotels (Caterer, 26 October, page 6).
The results found 97% of the 112 hoteliers who took part in the survey were in the same managerial profile category as senior industrialists.
The sample included chairmen of multinational corporations, presidents of energy companies, managing directors of publishing houses and MPs.
Lewis said: "I was astounded to see that the managerial skills present in the award-winning hoteliers' profiles was an almost exact replica of that found in the nation's top industrialists."
