How to help
If you wish to make a donation, it is possible to donate online at www.dec.org.uk or www.unicef.org. Alternatively, try any of the following industry-related initiatives:
Action Against Hunger
AAH has offices in affected areas such as Sri Lanka and Indonesia and is already working hard to provide assistance where it is needed. To give support to the AAH UK emergency appeal, contact Julienne on 020 7394 6300 or e-mail at j.ho@aahuk.org. Donate on line at www.aahuk.org.
Just a Drop
The International Institute for Peace through Tourism (IIPT) has launched this special appeal in partnership with the World Travel Market and Reed Travel Exhibitions. The campaign aims to raise money to provide clean water, sanitation and health education programmes so that people who survived the tsunami will also survive its aftermath. For more information or to donate, contact IIPT president Louis D'Amore on 00 1 802 253 8671, at ljd@iipt.org or go to www.iipt.org.
Tsunami Disaster Appeal
The British Hospitality Association, the Sri Lankan High Commission and Grange Hotels have teamed up to establish a hospitality response to the tsunami disaster. A co-ordination centre in Westminster is already sending aid and equipment to South-east Asia. Longer-term plans for basic shelter and a children's orphanage have also been initiated with the assistance of architects and project managers Buchanan Associates. For more information and to get involved, contact Tony Matharu on 020 7630 2000 or e-mail tony@grangehotels.com.
The World Association of Cooks Societies
Cooks and chefs of the Pacific Region of WACS (Australia, Fiji and New Zealand) are calling for 29 January to become "Dine Aid" day. WACS proposes that any establishment worldwide that sells food should donate $1 (53p) from the food bill of each diner they serve on that day. To find out more, contact Brian Cotterill at brian.cotterill@btinternet.com, or ring 020 8368 3237.
