InterContinental chairman gets £75k pay rise

Non-executive chairman of InterContinental Hotels Group David Webster will receive a pay rise of £75,000 this year, despite only working two or three days a week.

The company agreed to the pay rise after consultation with independent remuneration consultants Towers Perrin.

The consultants advised the hotelier to increase his pay from £275,000 to £350,000 so it was in line with its "mid-Atlantic comparables" for those based in the UK but operate at an international level.

Webster retired as Safeway chairman last year, receiving a pension of £9m and a further £4.4m in salary.
