Irish hotel to appeal over licence

A three-star hotel in Ireland was made to forfeit its drinks licence by the local district court in September when it was convicted of serving alcohol to an underaged drinker.

The Glencarn hotel and leisure centre in Castleblayney, County Monaghan, admitted the offence but appealed the severity of the sentence.

A temporary licence was issued to it until the appeal is heard in the Circuit Court on 17 November.

Hotel manager Patrick McFadden said the girl concerned was one of 10 people interviewed at the door of the hotel's disco. Six of the group had been turned away; but the girl - who was six months under the legal drinking age - had been admitted.

The hotel was fined £250. McFadden was also fined £200.
