Keeping on the right side of the law
Caterers in the south east are finding it difficult to keep up with current food legislation.
That's the conclusion of Food Knowledge and Know-How (FKK) an advice centre specialising in the food industry, which revealed that 60 per cent of all calls it receives relate to legislation enquiries. This is reflected by the recent Food Standards Agency survey which revealed similar results.
Chris Smart from FKK, says: "It's a real problem for businesses to understand and keep up with changes to legislation. However, it's massively important. Caterers much comply with various pieces of legislation covering areas such as food safety, food composition and labelling and weights and measures."
FKK is a non-profit making organisation, established with government support, to provide advice and assistance to smaller and medium sized enterprises in the south east. It was praised in the FSA report as a good source of information on legislative matters.
