Kingfisher role for Mackay

Compass Group chairman FRANCIS MACKAY has been made non-executive chairman at electrical and DIY multiple retailer Kingfisher.

Mackay will initially join Kingfisher as deputy chairman on 2 November, and succeed Sir John Banham as chairman on 7 December. Banham has been chairman of Kingfisher since 1996.

Mackay will continue his job at Compass after he takes up the Kingfisher role, a statement said last week.

Mackay, who is also a non-executive director at customer service organisation Centrica, joined Compass in 1986 as finance director.

He became chief executive in 1991, and has overseen its development from a UK-based business with annual sales of £250m into a £9b-a-year global company. He became executive chairman in 1999.
