Ladbroke to chop 160 jobs

LADBROKE Group, the hotels, gaming and retail giant, has announced plans to slash the number of staff at its head office.

New chief executive Peter George intends to devolve head office functions down to the operating divisions, which will see staff numbers at the two London head offices reduced from 280 to about 120.

"Hilton hotels will be picking up a few extra staff as a result," a Ladbroke spokesman told Caterer.

In a trading update for the three months to 30 September, Ladbroke reported that Hilton's UK hotels had put in a good performance, increasing both occupancy and room rates.

Overall, however, Hilton's performance in the third quarter was slightly below that of the same period last year. The company attributed this to the slow recovery in continental Europe and Japan.
