Lists open for Chef of the Year

The organisers of the National Chef of the Year 2002 competition are calling for entries for its forthcoming contest, which will take place at the Restaurant Show at London's Olympia next September.

The competition, which is run by the Craft Guild of Chefs and is sponsored by Knorr, is in its 30th year and asks entrants to devise a three-course meal for four people based around scallops (starter), whole duck (main course) and bananas (dessert). Entries will be passed to a panel of judges who will paper-score each menu, and the top 40 highest scorers will go on to compete in the live semi-final cook-offs at the exhibition.

Ten finalists will then compete in a live cook-off. All 10 will be asked to attend an awards dinner at the Sheraton Park Lane hotel, London, on 19 September, when the winner will be announced.

The winner will receive £6,000, while those placed second and third in the final will receive £1,500 and £500 respectively.
