London hyatt gets a lift

The Hyatt Carlton Tower in London has begun a massive refurbishment programme to expand its conference and leisure facilities.

The £10m project, due to be completed by the end of the year, includes a 20m stainless steel swimming pool - one of the largest in a London hotel.

It will be situated in a large conservatory on the second floor, and access will be via a new water garden.

The 224-bedroom hotel will also have a refurbished and redesigned ballroom, which is being extended to take up to 400 people for dinner-dances, plus full conference facilities.

A panoramic lift, believed to be the first of its kind in a London hotel, will run up the outside of the building to the health club.
