Luminar hits a right note

Nightclub, bar and restaurant operator Luminar almost trebled its pre-tax profit in the year ended 25 February.

Its bar-restaurant chain, Chicago Rock Café, increased like-for-like sales by 4.2% to more than £48m.

Of the 37 Chicago Rock Cafés, 15 were opened during the year. Luminar plans to open another 16 in this financial year.

Pre-tax profit almost trebled from £12.7m to £36.6m.

The company attributed the increase to the 131 Northern Leisure nightclubs it bought in July 2000 for £367m.
