Man admits ‘stalking' hotel receptionist

A stalker who drove a 25-year-old hotel receptionist to attempt suicide when he moved into a nearby house was placed under a five-year restraining order and fined £100 at Newcastle Crown Court last week.

Richard Foster, 34, admitted a charge of causing fear of violence to Clare Dennis between October 1997 and July 1998.

Foster became fixated with Dennis after bumping into her at the bar of the hotel where she worked. He began following her to and from work, taunting and threatening her and, on one occasion, painting "be fast" on the wall of her house.

The months of harassment culminated in her taking an overdose of antidepressants when Forster moved into a house just yards from her home.
