Spanish sales

While Spanish red wine sales have increased at a healthy rate in the off-trade, on-trade distribution is still "woefully inadequate", according to a recently published survey on Spanish wines. "This has often been blamed on the resistance to change by restaurateurs who have a long tradition of listing mainly French wines. This theory no longer holds up… and Spanish wines must attack the problem now," the survey states.

Continental wine merchant Ciborio has signed a five-year agency agreement to represent Champagne de Castellane in the UK.

macallan mounts

The single malt whisky widely believed to be the best, The Macallan, has announced a 44% increase in sales over last year. The malt whisky market as a whole continues to grow. In the year to June 1994 it increased in the UK by 13%, compared with a 3% sales growth in the blended market.
