martel to head up five lakes Leisure complex

KEITH Martel (right) has been appointed general manager of the new Five Lakes Hotel, Golf & Country Club near Colchester, Essex, due to open in April 1995.

The complex, formerly known as Quietwaters, was bought out of receivership earlier this year by Abraham Bejerano and will be operated by Mazard Hotel Management.

Mr Martel was previously general manager of Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort in St Lucia.

Brunet moves to St pierre resort

RENE Brunet, operations development manager at Boddington's Village Leisure Hotels, is to become general manager of St Pierre Country Club Resort at Chepstow, Gwent.

His predecessor, David Beswick, has gone to run the company's Bristol property, Redwood Lodge, following the move of Peter Bech to become general manager of Tewkesbury Park, Gloucestershire.

Country Club is also looking for a group marketing director following Simon Sheard's move within Whitbread to the post of strategic projects manager at the restaurants and leisure division.

coyle joins Ryan hotels in dublin

PATRICK Coyle has been appointed chief financial officer and company secretary of Dublin-based Ryan Hotels.

His appointment follows John Power's promotion to chief executive of the comp-any's Ryan Irish Hotels subsidiary. Mr Coyle was formerly group accountant of Continental Hotels, which comprises three properties in Amsterdam, Brussels and Hamburg.

Tamarind picks Soor for top job

RAJ Soor is the general manager of Tamarind, a new Indian restaurant opened earlier this month in London's Mayfair by Robert Wauters, managing director of the Halcyon Hotel in Holland Park.

Prior to joining the 100-seat Tamarind, which opened on the site of Tiberio, Mr Soor was bar manager at Kenny's restaurant in London.

Syer leaves sloans for goldsmiths

KEN Syer, former restaurant manager at Sloans in Birmingham, is the new manager of Goldsmiths, the recently refurbished à la carte restaurant at the Copthorne Birmingham.

Also new to the hotel is executive chef Martin Davies, former head chef at the Stoke-on-Trent Moat House.

fogg to manage

at queens-line

PAUL Fogg has been appointed manager of Queens-Line UK, the central reservations office of Queens Moat Houses in Romford, Essex.

Mr Fogg spent seven years with the company in the 1980s as director of sales for its two Gatwick hotels. Most recently he was regional operations director for Gatwick-based chauffeur-drive company Skycar.

Cabella is the new face at MeridiEn

FRANCO Cabella has been named general manager of London's five-star Le Méridien Piccadilly.

Mr Cabella, who was formerly general manager of Le Méridien New Orleans, in the USA, replaces Marcel Lévy. He joined the group in 1976.
